Our Story

For beauty professionals since 1974

We are a Finnish online store, importer and wholesaler of professional beauty care supplies. Our professional product range has been designed with ultimate care, so that beauty and makeup professionals can find the right tools to suit their “handwriting” and style.

Oy Duroy Ab was founded in 1974 by Pentti Nissinen. He had acquired his industry skills in wholesale and import of cosmetics and beauty care products while working for Durchmann Rohdos Oy and Flavia Oy.

In the 1970s, the competitive situation in the cosmetics industry became tougher and Flavia Oy moved its entire production to Sweden, and Nissinen decided to buy Flavia’s wholesale department for himself. He named his new company with respect to the roots of the operation, taking the letter combination Du-R-Oy from the original name Durchmann Rohdos Oy – and Oy Duroy Ab was born.

In the beginning, the company imported beauty care products as well as French Givenchy perfumes, sunglasses and hair jewelry. At a later stage, Oy Duroy Ab became Tiuku Räsänen’s family company and remained so until the end of 2020. In the 1990s, the high-quality make-up brushes favored by professionals also expanded to consumer sales in Finland with the launch of the Duroy® brand. Prestigious Stockmann department store was the first to start selling to consumers. During her 45-year career, Räsänen did pioneering work as a Finnish entrepreneur in the beauty industry, and the word “Duroy” became a concept within the people in the industry.

Duroy’s new era

In December 2020, Oy Duroy Ab got a new start when entrepreneur Mika Marjakangas, beauty professional, hairstylist and interior designer Juha Meriläinen and accounting entrepreneur Päivi Virtanen became the company’s new owners. Later, in 2021, Jouni Pitko joined in to further strengthen the board.

The new owners bring fresh know-how and resources to Duroy’s business development, with the aim of growing the company in a controlled manner and developing the product range and services so that more and more beauty professionals can benefit from well-designed beauty tools that make their work easier.

With good and responsible purchasing processes and reasonable logistics, we are also able to keep our prices reasonable,” says Mika Marjakangas, chairman of the board of Oy Duroy Ab.

It all started from makeup brushes

High quality Duroy® -brushes are designed for professionals. Our professional product range has been designed with ultimate care, so that beauty and makeup professionals can find the right tools to suit their “handwriting” and style. Most of our brushes are handmade in Germany. We also import high-quality beauty care equipment from Korea and China. The brand name Duroy® is registered throughout the EU.

The majority of Duroy® -brushes are designed in house by our beauty specialists, and some are acquired through our reliable partners and then customized according to the requirements of our high-quality product selection.

The cornerstone of our operations is cooperation with top experts in the field. Currently, our selection includes, for example, brush sets designed by leading Finnish professionals – make-up artist Raili Hulkkonen, Body Painting world champion Riina Laine and specialist cosmetologist Ville Äikäs. Each professional has brought their own expertise and experience of what features that are required from a top brush.

In our selection, you can find almost all brush types in both real natural hair and synthetic hair. Real hair binds color well, is soft on the skin and applies make-up beautifully. The end result is natural and smooth. The real hairs used in our brushes are sourced responsibly,

with ethical principles and are certified. The wood used in the brushes is FSC certified. In use, highly developed synthetic hairs are almost the same as real hair. Synthetic brushes are best suited for liquid and cream products, such as foundations, cream blushes and liquid liners. Synthetic fibers naturally attract each other, which makes it easy to achieve a precise and uniform end result.

We carefully assess the responsibility principles of all our new partners and regularly update the information of our old suppliers.

A versatile selection for professionals

Duroy® is known for its brushes, nevertheless our company also sells other beauty care tools for professionals, from washing and shaving to nail and foot care products and hairdressing tools.

Our online store www.duroy.fi serves all beauty professionals with a selection of almost 600 products. Get access to our professional online store with a company registration. Our online store also serves beauty industry students, future professionals. Students can register in the pro shop with a student ID and get the same price as professionals.
